Child Internet Protection Act

Asher Public School recognizes federal and state regulations with regards to Internet usage and Internet safety for their students.  Asher Public School Policy and Procedures dilneates, for public reference, the safe guards in place to assure safe and responsible use of the Internet for students and staff alike.  Internet usage is a privilege and not a right.  Appropriate usuage is directly related to curricular standards and reflected in lesson plans.  It is the intention of Asher Public School to teach our students how to be good digital citizens, as well as, the capacity to use the Internet as a learning tool for the 21st century.  See the FCC Consumer Facts link here regarding the Child Internet Protection Act.  Also reference this video clip from Google regarding Safe Search

Reading is fundamental in all curriculum.  A recent study shows that those students who aren't reading at grade level by the 3rd grade are less likely than their peers who are to graduate from high school.  Reading daily to self, to others, or simply being read aloud to have HUGE benefits.  It's not the number of toys in a house that catapults a student to success, it's the number of books.  The more one reads the better one reads.  Oklahoma recently passed SB 346 that requires all 3rd graders to be reading at grade level before they are promoted to 4th grade.  This is a critical benchmark for students.   School readiness is essential.  This website gives a very good oversight of what it means to be Ready for Kindergarten.   Adding to the urgency of raising better readers, is the fact that the 21st century will and is making a rapid transistion from printed text to digital text.  This shift will require a higher level of reading skill, for example, the ability to discriminate text, origin of information, and synthesize the information read.  Read to live and live to read.  Quality of life depends on it.   I hope this video inspires you to read.
